Lawrence Peter Yogi Berra was born on May 12, 1925, and passed away on September 22, 2015, after a career as a professional baseball catcher, manager, and coach. Berra played in Major League Baseball for 19 seasons from 1946 to 1963 and again in 1965, spending all but his final season with the New York Yankees. He recorded a career batting average of .285, hit 358 home runs, and drove in 1,430 runs during his MLB career. After his playing days, Berra remained with the Mets for a decade, serving as their manager for the final four years. He appeared in 13 of the 15 World Series won by New York baseball teams between 1947 and 1981. In 1999, Berra was named to the MLB All-Century Team in a fan vote recognizing his lasting impact on the sport. From 1998 onward, he remained closely involved with the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center located on the Montclair State University campus.
