Y.A. Tittle Biography

Y.A. Tittle, born October 24, 1926, played professional football in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants, and also competed for the original Baltimore Colts in the AAFC. Tittle had a 17-year career in professional football, playing from 1948 to 1964 with multiple teams. He played college football at Louisiana State University, where he was a two-time All-SEC quarterback for the LSU Tigers. In 1948, Tittle was named AAFC Rookie of the Year after leading the Baltimore Colts to the playoffs. After the Colts folded following one-win seasons, Tittle was selected by the 49ers in the 1951 NFL draft. At age 34, Tittle was traded to the Giants after the 1960 season, despite being considered past his prime. He spent his final years with the New York Giants, contributing to a period widely regarded as one of the team’s most successful eras.
