Willson Contreras Biography

Willson Eduardo Contreras, born on May 13, 1992, is a Venezuelan professional baseball player who has played as a first baseman and catcher in Major League Baseball. He has played in MLB for the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals during his career. Contreras made his MLB debut in 2016 and was part of the Chicago Cubs team that won the World Series that same year. He was selected as a starter in the MLB All-Star Game in 2018, 2019, and 2022. Prior to the 2016 season, he was ranked 57th on Baseball Prospectus' top 101 prospect list. The Chicago Cubs promoted him to the major league team on June 17, 2016. During the 2016 regular season, he recorded 80 hits in 295 at-bats, hit 12 home runs, drove in 35 runs, and maintained a .275 batting average.
