Webster Slaughter Biography

Webster Melvin Slaughter, born on October 19, 1964, was an American professional football player who played as a wide receiver in the National Football League from 1986 to 1998. He played college football for the San Diego State Aztecs before entering the NFL. During his rookie season, Slaughter stood 6 feet 0 inches tall and weighed 175 pounds, recording 40 receptions for 577 yards and four touchdowns across 16 games. In the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos, he caught one pass for 20 yards after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the first quarter, as the Browns lost 23–20. In 1987, Slaughter appeared in 12 games and caught 47 passes for 806 yards and seven touchdowns. He caught four passes for 53 yards, including a four-yard touchdown reception that tied the game at 31 in the fourth quarter. Slaughter's single-season receiving yardage total in Cleveland remained a team record until Braylon Edwards surpassed it in 2007.
