Wayne Gretzky Biography

Wayne Douglas Gretzky, born on January 26, 1961, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and head coach. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League from 1979 to 1999 for four teams. Gretzky holds the record for most career points and assists in NHL history, with more assists than any other player has total career points. He recorded over 100 points in 15 professional seasons during his career. At the time of his retirement in 1999, he held 61 NHL records, including 40 regular season and 15 playoff records. Gretzky served as executive director for the Canadian national men's hockey team during the 2002 Winter Olympics, where the team won gold. In September 2009, following the Phoenix Coyotes' bankruptcy, he resigned as head coach and gave up his ownership stake.
