Von Hayes Biography

Von Francis Hayes, born on August 31, 1958, is an American former professional baseball player and manager. Hayes played in Major League Baseball as an outfielder from 1981 to 1992, notably with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he was part of the 1983 National League pennant-winning team and earned All-Star honors in 1989. After his playing career, Hayes continued to work in professional baseball as a minor league baseball manager. He played on his school's baseball team as a third baseman and later transitioned to first base. On June 11, 1985, Hayes became the first player in MLB history to hit two home runs in a single first inning. Hayes hit two two-run home runs in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 8, 1989, at Veterans Stadium. He attempted a comeback with California in 1992, but it was unsuccessful.
