Vince Lombardi Biography

Vincent Thomas Lombardi was born on June 11, 1913, and passed away on September 3, 1970, serving as an American professional football coach and executive in the NFL. Lombardi is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches and leaders in American sports. Vince Lombardi served as head coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960s and guided the team to five NFL Championships, including victories in the 1966 and 1967 seasons that concluded with the first two Super Bowls. Lombardi began his coaching career as an assistant and later as head coach at St. Cecilia High School in Englewood, New Jersey. He never had a losing season as head coach in the NFL, finishing with a regular-season record of 96 wins, 34 losses, and 6 ties, and a postseason record of 9 wins and 1 loss. In 1933, Lombardi received a football scholarship to Fordham University in the Bronx to play for the Fordham Rams under Coach Jim Crowley, who had been a member of Notre Dame’s Four Horsemen in the 1920s. Lombardi graduated from Fordham University on June 16, 1937.
