Vincent Joseph Dooley was born on September 4, 1932, and passed away on October 28, 2022, as an American college football coach. Dooley served as head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs from 1964 to 1988 and later held the role of athletic director from 1979 to 2004. Over his 25-year tenure as head coach, he achieved a record of 201 wins, 77 losses, and 10 ties. His teams secured six Southeastern Conference championships and captured the 1980 national title. Following the 1980 season, Dooley received recognition as college football's Coach of the Year from multiple organizations. He earned a football scholarship to Auburn University, where he played and later coached under Ralph Shug Jordan. While pursuing his master's degree at Auburn, Dooley served as quarterback coach for five years and then as head freshman coach for three years.
