Victor Wembanyama Biography

Victor Wembanyama, born on 4 January 2004, is a French professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA, widely known by the nicknames Wemby and the Alien. Victor Wembanyama was chosen first overall by the Spurs in the 2023 NBA draft and possesses a combination of height, agility, and basketball skills. He began his professional career at age 15 in 2019 with Nanterre 92 in the LNB Pro A league. During the 2022–23 season, he played for Metropolitans 92 and became the youngest recipient of the Pro A MVP award, while also earning Best Defender honors and leading the league in scoring, rebounds, and blocks. Victor Wembanyama received the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year award and was selected to the All-Defensive First Team as a rookie. He has competed internationally with the French national team, winning a silver medal at the 2024 Olympics. In February 2018, he was loaned to FC Barcelona for the Minicopa del Rey, an under-14 tournament in Spain, where he helped his team finish in third place.
