Troy James Smith, born on July 20, 1984, is an American former professional football quarterback who has played in the National Football League for four seasons. He played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes and won the Heisman Trophy in 2006. Troy Smith was chosen in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens following concerns about his size and his performance in the 2007 BCS National Championship Game. After a few games, Irvin White transitioned Smith to the quarterback role, where he stayed throughout his tenure. Smith played his first two years at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, but was removed from the team after elbowing an opponent in the head during a varsity basketball game. After his junior football season in high school, Smith was invited to participate in the Elite 11 competition, which features the eleven top ranked high school quarterback prospects in the United States. In 2004, Troy Smith secured wins in four of the five games he started, including a win against the Michigan Wolverines.
