Eldrick Tont Tiger Woods was born on December 30, 1975, and is an American professional golfer. Tiger Woods is recognized as one of the top golfers in history and among the most prominent athletes in modern times. Woods turned professional in 1996 at age 20 after an outstanding junior, college, and amateur career. At the 2000 U.S. Open he won by a major record 15 strokes, a performance regarded by many as the greatest in golf history. After winning the 2001 Masters he became the only player to win four consecutive major championships in a one-year period. Woods is one of six men to complete the career Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Nicklaus, and Rory McIlroy. Woods's niece Cheyenne Woods turned professional in 2012 and made her debut at the LPGA Championship.
