Teemu Selänne Biography

Teemu Ilmari Selänne, born on July 3, 1970, is a Finnish former professional ice hockey player. Teemu Selänne played 21 seasons in the NHL as a right winger, representing the Winnipeg Jets, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, and Colorado Avalanche after starting his professional career in 1989–90 with Jokerit. Teemu Selänne finished his NHL career ranked 11th in all-time goals with 684 and 15th in points with 1,457, retiring in 2014. Selänne was a first-round selection of the Jets, 10th overall, at the 1988 NHL entry draft, but initially remained in Finland. Teemu Selänne scored the most points in the SM-liiga during the 1991–92 season while playing for Jokerit, a team that won the Kanada-malja. Internationally, Selänne was a long-time member of the Finland national team. A six-time Olympian, Selänne helped Finland win three bronze medals and, in 2006, a silver medal.
