Shawn Green Biography

Shawn David Green, born on November 10, 1972, is an American former professional baseball right fielder who has played in Major League Baseball. Green was selected in the first round of the MLB draft and earned two All-Star appearances during his career. On May 23, 2002, Green recorded 19 total bases in a single game against the Milwaukee Brewers, setting an MLB record. He has ranked in the top five in the league for home runs, RBIs, intentional walks, and MVP voting on multiple occasions. The record previously held by Joe Adcock, who had 18 total bases in a game, was surpassed by Green. Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz matched Green’s 19 total bases in a game against the Houston Astros on July 25, 2025. Green is recognized as one of the most prominent Jewish players in MLB history, following Art Shamsky, who played for the 1969 World Series champion Mets.
