Sergei Fedorov Biography

Sergei Viktorovich Fedorov, born on December 13, 1969, is a Russian former professional ice hockey player who served as head coach of CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League from 2021 to 2024. Fedorov played 13 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, primarily as a centre but also occasionally as a winger or defenceman. He was among the first hockey players to defect from the Soviet Union to play in the National Hockey League. During his tenure with Detroit, he won the Stanley Cup three times and received the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player in 1994. In 2017, Fedorov was recognized as one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in history. He is the ninth player to have his jersey retired by the Detroit Red Wings. Less than two months after his birth, Fedorov was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round, 74th overall, of the 1989 NHL entry draft.
