Sam Hubbard was born on June 29, 1995, and played as a defensive end throughout his seven-year career in the National Football League. He played college football at Ohio State and was chosen by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft. Hubbard competed in high school lacrosse and had initially committed to Notre Dame to play college lacrosse. In 2017, he appeared in 14 games as a redshirt junior, recording 42 tackles and a career-high seven sacks. On December 30, 2017, Hubbard announced his decision to enter the 2018 NFL draft. NFL draft analysts and scouts had projected him as a first or second round selection prior to the draft. During the 2019 regular season opener, he recorded two sacks and 10 tackles in a 21–20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
