Sam Ehlinger, born September 30, 1998, is an American professional football quarterback who has played in the National Football League. He has played for the Indianapolis Colts following his time with the Denver Broncos. Ehlinger competed in college football for the Texas Longhorns, leading the team to the 2018 Big 12 Championship Game and two bowl appearances. He finished his college career as the Texas Longhorns' all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns, surpassing notable quarterbacks like Drew Brees and Nick Foles. Ehlinger joined the Texas Longhorns under head coach Tom Herman, who took over an offense previously led by sophomore quarterback Shane Buechele. During spring practice for the 2017 season, offensive coordinator Tim Beck noted that Buechele adapted more quickly than Ehlinger in the quarterback competition. In the spring game on April 15, Ehlinger played on the second-team offense, recording 148 passing yards and scoring a touchdown against the first-team defense.
