Ryan Wallace Zimmerman, born on September 28, 1984, played his entire 17-year Major League Baseball career with the Washington Nationals. Zimmerman primarily served as a third baseman before transitioning to first base in 2015. He earned recognition as an MLB All-Star twice, received one Gold Glove, and won two Silver Slugger awards. Zimmerman attended Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and later played college baseball at the University of Virginia. Known as Mr. National, he was the Nationals’ first draft pick after the team’s relocation to Washington and became a central figure in the franchise’s rise. Before college, he competed on an AAU team with B.J. Upton and David Wright. In 2006, the Coastal Plain League named him a member of its All-Decade Team.
