Ryan Shazier was born on September 6, 1992, and played as a professional football linebacker in the National Football League. He played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft. Shazier made a Pro Bowl appearance in 2016 during his successful early NFL career. In 2017, during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, he suffered a spinal injury while attempting a tackle, resulting in paralysis and requiring spinal stabilization surgery. He initially committed to play for Urban Meyer at Florida but withdrew after Meyer's resignation as head coach. As a true freshman, Shazier started in 3 regular season games and played in every contest. On January 5, 2014, he announced he would leave Ohio State after his junior year to enter the 2014 NFL draft.
