Ronald Mandel Lott, born on May 8, 1959, played 14 seasons in the National Football League from 1981 to 1994. Lott earned consensus All-American honors during his college football career at the University of Southern California. Ronnie Lott played college football for the University of Southern California between 1977 and 1980. After a brief freshman season, Lott started in 1978 and recorded three interceptions that helped the team claim a share of the national championship. He also appeared in six games for the 1979–80 USC basketball team under coach Stan Morrison. In 1999, Sports Illustrated recognized Lott as part of its All-Century Team for college football. The San Francisco 49ers selected him eighth overall in the 1981 NFL Draft, launching his professional career.
