Ron Santo played as a third baseman in Major League Baseball from 1960 to 1973 with the Chicago Cubs and in 1974 with the Chicago White Sox. He joined the Cubs broadcasting team in 1990 and provided commentary on WGN radio until his death in 2010. Santo was named to the Cubs All-Century Team in 1999. He was selected as an All-Star for nine seasons during his 15-year MLB career. In 2002, he received recognition as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Person of the Year. Santo led the National League in assists every year through 1968, surpassing a previous record. In 1963, he set a modern National League record with 374 assists at third base, exceeding Tommy Leach's 1904 mark of 371.
