Ron Jaworski Biography

Ron Jaworski, born on March 23, 1951, played 17 seasons in the National Football League as a professional quarterback. He was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round of the 1973 NFL draft after playing college football for the Youngstown State Penguins. After four seasons mostly as a backup with the Rams, he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 1977 and led them to four consecutive playoff appearances, including a division title and a Super Bowl appearance in 1980. Following his playing career, he served as an NFL analyst on ESPN from 1990 to 2017. During his time at Youngstown State, he set school records for single-season passing completions with 139 and career passing touchdowns with 32. He began his NFL career as the third-string quarterback, backing up John Hadl and James Harris, and appeared in only five games during his first two seasons. Entering the 1976 season, he was named the Week 1 starter after James Harris suffered a thumb fracture.
