Ronald Harper Sr. was born on January 20, 1964, and is an American former professional basketball player. He played in the National Basketball Association from 1986 to 2001 and has won five NBA championships. His sons Dylan Harper and Ron Harper Jr. have both played in the NBA. In 2006, he attended a ceremony where the school's gymnasium was named in his honor. Ron Harper played four seasons of college basketball at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, from 1982 to 1985. As a freshman, he averaged 12.8 points per game and led the team in rebounding with 7.0 per game during a 13–15 season. He was selected eighth overall in the 1986 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
