Ron Guidry Biography

Ron Guidry, born August 28, 1950, played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball as a professional pitcher for the New York Yankees. He served as the Yankees' pitching coach during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Guidry earned the American League Cy Young Award in 1978 after posting a 25–3 win–loss record. He pitched for the University of Southwestern Louisiana before his professional career. In 1977, Guidry began the season as a relief pitcher before being moved to the Yankees' starting rotation. That same season, he finished with a 16–7 record in regular-season games. In 1978 Ron Guidry achieved a pitching performance that is recognized as the most outstanding season by a Yankees pitcher in the team's history.
