Ronald Mark Blomberg, nicknamed Boomer, is an American former professional baseball player and minor league manager born on August 23, 1948. He has played in Major League Baseball as a designated hitter, first baseman, and right fielder. Blomberg played for the New York Yankees from 1969 and 1971 to 1976, and later for the Chicago White Sox in 1978, also managing the Bet Shemesh Blue Sox in 2007. Over eight seasons, he compiled a .293 batting average with 391 hits in 1,333 at-bats, 52 home runs, 224 RBIs, 184 runs, 67 doubles, and 8 triples in 461 games. He expressed pride in playing in New York, noting the opportunity to perform in front of 8 million Jews. Blomberg was selected by the Yankees with the first overall pick in the 1967 amateur draft and signed for $75,000, equivalent to $724,000 today. He made his major league debut on September 10, 1969, two weeks after turning 21.
