Roger Clemens Biography

William Roger Clemens, nicknamed Rocket, is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played 24 seasons in Major League Baseball, most notably with the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. Clemens spent 13 seasons with the Red Sox, six with the Yankees, two with the Toronto Blue Jays, and three with the Houston Astros. He recorded 354 wins, maintained a 3.12 earned run average, and struck out 4,672 batters, the third-most in MLB history. After the 1996 season, Clemens left Boston via free agency and joined the Toronto Blue Jays following his second 20-strikeout game. In 1999, Clemens joined the Yankees and secured two World Series championships. In 2001, Clemens became the first pitcher in major league history to begin a season with a 20–1 win–loss record. Clemens joined the Houston Astros in 2004, where he spent three seasons and earned his seventh Cy Young Award.
