Roberto Luongo, born on April 4, 1979, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played as a goaltender. He has played 19 seasons in the National Hockey League, representing the New York Islanders, Florida Panthers, and Vancouver Canucks. Luongo earned two NHL All-Star selections in 2004 and 2007, and won the William M. Jennings Trophy in 2011 for his team's low goals against average. Following his second season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, he was chosen fourth overall by the New York Islanders in the 1997 NHL entry draft. During his five seasons with the Florida Panthers, he set team records for games played, wins, and shutouts, though the team did not qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs. In his first season with the Vancouver Canucks, Luongo won 47 games and finished as runner-up for both the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Vezina Trophy. After retiring, he joined the Florida Panthers' front office and helped the team win back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2024 and 2025.
