Roberto Duran Biography

Roberto Duran held world championships across four weight classes: lightweight, welterweight, light middleweight, and middleweight. He reigned as the undisputed lightweight champion during his career. Duran was recognized as a versatile, technical brawler and pressure fighter, earning the nickname Manos de Piedra for his strong punching and solid defense. He concluded his professional career with a record of 119 fights, 103 wins, and 70 knockouts. Duran made his professional debut in February 1968 at the age of 16. His first title bout occurred in June 1972, when he defeated Ken Buchanan at Madison Square Garden to claim the WBA Lightweight Championship. In 1976, he defeated future Light Welterweight Champion Saoul Mamby.
