Rico Petrocelli Biography

Americo Peter Rico Petrocelli was born on June 27, 1943, and is an American former professional baseball player and minor league manager. He played his entire MLB career as a shortstop and third baseman for the Boston Red Sox, known for his powerful hitting and solid defensive play. Petrocelli was a two-time All-Star shortstop and appeared in two World Series with the Red Sox in 1967 and 1975. In 1962, he played 137 games for Boston's Class B farm team, the Winston-Salem Red Sox, batting .277 with 17 home runs and 80 RBIs. In 1964, he played 134 games for the Triple-A Seattle Rainiers, batting .231 with 10 home runs and 48 RBIs. Petrocelli spent all of the 1965 season with Boston, playing in 103 games and making 93 starts at shortstop. In 1970, he hit 29 home runs and recorded a career-high 103 RBIs while batting .261 in 157 games.
