Rickey Jackson Biography

Rickey Jackson, born on March 20, 1958, played as a linebacker in the NFL for the New Orleans Saints from 1981 to 1993 and the San Francisco 49ers from 1994 to 1995. He served as a key member of the Saints' famed Dome Patrol linebacker unit during his tenure with the team. Rickey Jackson secured a Super Bowl title with the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX before concluding his career. On February 7, 2010, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the same day his former team, the Saints, claimed victory in Super Bowl XLIV. At the University of Pittsburgh, Jackson was known as 'the other end' due to the presence of teammate Hugh Green. As a junior in 1979, Jackson earned second-team All-East honors and received honorable mention All-American recognition from the Associated Press and The Sporting News. Following a standout performance against Army in 1980, where he recorded 12 tackles, three sacks, a forced fumble, an interception, and a blocked punt, Jackson was named Sports Illustrated Player of the Week.
