Raul Allegre Biography

Raúl Enrique Allegre Rodríguez, born on June 15, 1959, is a Mexican former professional football kicker who played in the National Football League. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent following the 1983 NFL draft after playing college football at Montana and Texas. Originally a soccer player, he had no prior experience in American football before his senior year at Shelton High School. Head coach Jack Stark asked him to attempt kicking footballs just before the season began. Coach Stark questioned whether he could kick the ball above the crossbar, to which Allegre responded that he could, though he aimed below, thinking it resembled a soccer goal. During the season, the team won only three games, and Allegre attempted three field goals and nine extra points, though he consistently kicked off with strong distance. In 1980, he joined the football team as a walk-on and was redshirted due to NCAA transfer regulations.
