Quinton Byfield Biography

Quinton Byfield, born on August 19, 2002, is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who has played as a forward for the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League. Byfield was selected second overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the highest-drafted Black player in NHL history. As a teenager, Byfield earned the 2015 Mini Chowder Cup's Most Valuable Player award in the 2002 Division at Pro-Am's event. He was chosen first overall by the Sudbury Wolves in the 2018 OHL Draft and received both the OHL Rookie of the Year and CHL Rookie of the Year honors. Byfield made his NHL debut on April 28, 2021, in a game against the Anaheim Ducks that ended in a 3–2 loss. He earned a silver medal representing Canada at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. Byfield won a gold medal with Canada at the 2020 World Junior Championships, recording one assist in seven games.
