Purvis Short Biography

Purvis Short, born on July 2, 1957, played in the NBA from 1978 to 1990 with the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and New Jersey Nets. Standing 6'7", he averaged 17.3 points per game during his twelve-season professional career. By the 1984–85 season, he was a starter and recorded a career high of 59 points in a game against the New Jersey Nets. Born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, he is the younger brother of Gene Short, who played one season with the New York Knicks. The following year, he posted a 17.0 point per game average and achieved a career high .500 field goal percentage across 62 games. Prior to the 1980–81 season, the Warriors acquired Bernard King, shifting Short to a reserve role. He missed two months early in the 1986–87 season due to knee surgery.
