Plaxico Burress Biography

Plaxico Antonio Burress, born August 12, 1977, played 12 seasons as a professional wide receiver in the NFL. He played college football at Michigan State and was chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the eighth overall pick in 2000. In 1999, he recorded 255 receiving yards on ten catches, setting a then-school record. Burress was featured on the MTV show True Life, which documented his rookie season. In a game the Steelers won 24–13, he caught a 19-yard reception that caused him to fall to his knees. His best season with the Steelers came in 2002, when he recorded 78 receptions for 1,325 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2001, he had 1,008 receiving yards, joining Hines Ward as the first pair of 1,000-yard receivers for the Steelers.
