Phil Simms Biography

Phillip Martin Simms, born November 3, 1955, played 14 seasons in the NFL as a professional quarterback for the New York Giants. After college football at Morehead State, he was chosen seventh overall in the 1979 NFL draft by the Giants. He earned Super Bowl XXI MVP honors by completing 22 of 25 passes (88%) and posting a 150.9 passer rating in a 39–20 victory over the Broncos. Simms earned Pro Bowl honors in 1985 and again in 1993 for standout performances. He descends from millionaire Frank Wall and is related to college football players Doc Kuhn and Shipwreck Kelly. At Morehead State, he completed 92 of 173 passes with a 53.2% completion rate, six touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and 1,229 yards in his senior year. In 1981, he recorded 2,031 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions with a 54.4% completion rate before a shoulder injury on November 15.
