Pedro Martinez Biography

Pedro Jaime Martínez, born October 25, 1971, played in Major League Baseball from 1992 to 2009 for five teams, most notably the Boston Red Sox from 1998 to 2004. With a record of 219 wins and 100 losses, Martínez ranks tenth in winning percentage in major league history and fifth among pitchers with over 2,000 innings pitched as of 2023. He ended his career with a 2.93 earned run average, among the lowest ever by a pitcher with at least 2,500 innings pitched since 1920. Pedro Martinez recorded over 3,000 career strikeouts in fewer than 3,000 innings pitched, a feat shared only with Max Scherzer and Clayton Kershaw. Pedro Martínez was an eight-time All-Star who performed at a high level between 1997 and 2003. Pedro Martinez achieved a 118–36 record with a 2.20 ERA, led his league in ERA five times, and topped the league in strikeouts and winning percentage three times each during his career. He debuted professionally with the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League during the 1989–90 season.
