Patrick Mahomes II, born September 17, 1995, is an American professional football quarterback who has played for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League. Since 2018 as the Chiefs' starting quarterback, he has guided the team to seven straight AFC Championship Game appearances and five Super Bowl appearances, securing three victories. Mahomes played college football for the Texas Tech Red Raiders and won the Sammy Baugh Trophy as a junior after leading the FBS in passing yards and total touchdowns. Patrick Mahomes was chosen 10th in the 2017 NFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs and served as a backup during his first season behind Alex Smith. In 2018, after the Chiefs traded Smith, Mahomes became the starter and threw for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. In the 2019 season, Mahomes led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl in 50 years, winning Super Bowl LIV. He received the Super Bowl MVP award after his performance, marking him as the youngest quarterback and second Black quarterback to achieve the distinction.
