Patrick Aloysius Ewing Sr. was born on August 5, 1962, and is a Jamaican-American professional basketball coach and former player. He played 17 seasons in the NBA, spending most of his career as the starting center for the New York Knicks. Ewing was a key figure in the New York Knicks' success during the 1990s and later became an NBA champion in 2026 while serving in a front office role. He played college basketball as a center for the Georgetown Hoyas, where the team reached the NCAA championship game three times. ESPN ranked him as the 16th-greatest college basketball player of all time in 2008. He won Olympic gold medals as a member of the United States men's basketball teams in 1984 and 1992. Ewing developed his basketball skills at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School under the guidance of coach Mike Jarvis.
