Patrice Bergeron Biography

Patrice Bergeron-Cleary, born on July 24, 1985, played 19 seasons in the NHL, spending his entire career with the Boston Bruins. He served as team captain from 2021 until his retirement in 2023. Patrice Bergeron competed in the QMJHL with the Acadie–Bathurst Titan for a season prior to being chosen 45th overall in the 2003 NHL draft by Boston. Bergeron earned gold with Canada in the 2004 World Championships, 2005 World Junior Championships, 2010 Winter Olympics, 2012 Spengler Cup, and 2014 Winter Olympics. During the 2004–05 NHL lockout, Bergeron played for the Providence Bruins in the AHL, recording 61 points across 68 games. The Bruins organization chose to center their team around Bergeron over Thornton due to his character both on and off the ice as noted in a June 2011 statement. On January 19, 2008, Patrice Bergeron was advised to take a break from play as his recovery progress had declined.
