Oscar De La Hoya, born February 4, 1973, is a Mexican-American boxer who competed professionally from 1992 to 2008. He won 11 world titles across six different weight classes, including lineal championships in three divisions. De La Hoya was named The Ring magazine Fighter of the Year in 1995 and held the top pound-for-pound ranking in 1997 and 1998. He retired from boxing in 2009 after a 16-year professional career. At age 15, De La Hoya captured the national Junior Olympics 119-pound title. In 1999, he fought IBF champion Félix Trinidad, who was undefeated at 35–0, in a record-breaking pay-per-view bout on September 18. After Trinidad vacated the title, De La Hoya won the WBC welterweight title, which he later lost to Shane Mosley, who was 34–0, by split decision on June 17, 2000.
