Anthony Nomar Garciaparra, born on July 23, 1973, is an American former professional baseball player and current SportsNet LA analyst. He has played in Major League Baseball for fourteen seasons, primarily as a shortstop with the Boston Red Sox, and later as a third and first baseman with the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Oakland Athletics. Garciaparra earned six All-Star selections in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2006, and won the American League Rookie of the Year and Silver Slugger Award at shortstop in 1997. He maintained a career batting average of .313, known for his consistent ability to hit for a high average. The Milwaukee Brewers drafted Garciaparra in the fifth round of the 1991 draft, though he did not sign with them. He contributed to the Yellow Jackets’ run to the College World Series title game in 1994, where they were defeated by Oklahoma. Garciaparra received recognition as an Atlantic Coast Conference All-Star and was selected as a first team All-American during the 1993–94 season.
