Nico Hoerner Biography

Nicholas Mackie Hoerner, born on May 13, 1997, is an American professional baseball middle infielder who has played for the Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball. He played college baseball at Stanford University, where he was selected by the Cubs in the first round of the 2018 MLB draft. Hoerner made his MLB debut in 2019 after being promoted to the major leagues by Chicago. He enrolled at Stanford University to play college baseball for the Stanford Cardinal, where he developed his skills as a second baseman. As a freshman in 2016, Hoerner played in 54 games for Stanford, starting 53 at second base and recording 53 hits, 24 RBIs, and eight doubles while batting .254. As a junior in 2018, he batted .345 with 40 RBIs, 15 stolen bases, and two home runs, earning a spot on the All-Pac-12 team for the second consecutive year. Nico Hoerner was called up to the majors by Chicago on September 9, 2019, marking him as the first from his draft class to reach the big leagues.
