Mitch Williams Biography

Mitchell Steven Williams, born November 17, 1964, played as a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1986 to 1997 for six teams. He served as a studio analyst for the MLB Network between 2009 and 2014. Williams, a left-handed pitcher, recorded 192 saves over 11 seasons, including a career-high 43 in 1993. Mitch Williams yielded a walk-off home run to Joe Carter during the sixth game of the 1993 World Series, resulting in a Toronto Blue Jays win over the Phillies. Mitch Williams continued to play in segments of three additional major league seasons following his decline. The Texas Rangers selected Williams in 1985, and he made his MLB debut with them in 1986. It was with the Rangers that he earned the nickname Wild Thing due to his unorthodox delivery and control challenges.
