Mike Piazza Biography

Mike Piazza, born September 4, 1968, played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball from 1992 to 2007 and is a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Piazza played most notably for the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, with brief stints for the Florida Marlins, San Diego Padres, and Oakland Athletics. In 1997, he batted .362 with 40 home runs and 124 RBI, finishing as runner-up in NL Most Valuable Player voting. Piazza was traded to the Marlins in 1998 and then to the Mets just a week later, where he spent most of his remaining career. After the 2005 season, he played one season each with the Padres and Athletics before retiring following the 2007 season. Piazza led A.C. Reggiana 1919 in Serie C for two seasons from 2017 to 2018, though the club was not registered due to financial issues. As a child, he watched the Philadelphia 76ers play the Los Angeles Lakers in January 1983, witnessing Julius Erving’s famous Rock-a-Baby dunk.
