Michael Brian Young, born October 19, 1976, played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball as a professional infielder. Since 2014, Young has served in the Texas Rangers’ front office as a Special Assistant to the General Manager. Young was a five-time All-Star, playing primarily at shortstop, and also appeared as a third baseman and designated hitter. He played high school baseball at Bishop Amat Memorial High School and college baseball at the University of California, Santa Barbara. During his tenure with the Rangers, Young established multiple club records in offensive categories such as runs scored and total bases. Young was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 25th round of the 1994 MLB draft but did not sign with the team. He began his professional career in 1997 with the St. Catharines Blue Jays in the New York–Penn League, a short-season A affiliate.
