Maxie Baughan Biography

Maxie Callaway Baughan Jr., born August 3, 1938, was an American professional football player and coach in the National Football League. Baughan played linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, and Washington Redskins. After high school in Alabama, he played college football for Georgia Tech from 1957 to 1959. He was selected 20th overall in the 1960 NFL draft by the Eagles and also chosen in the first round of the 1960 AFL draft. Baughan played his first six seasons with the Eagles, earning Pro Bowl honors in all but one year. In a 1965 game against the Steelers, he contributed to a team record of nine interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. By 1966, declining team wins led him to seek a change from Philadelphia.
