Matt Painter Biography

Matthew Curtis Painter, born August 27, 1970, is an American college basketball coach and former player. He has served as the 19th head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers men's basketball team since 2005. Painter previously held the head coaching position at Southern Illinois University during the 2003–04 season. After graduating from high school in 1989, he played point guard for the Purdue Boilermakers, starting for one season. He began his coaching career at Purdue immediately after his playing days, signing a six-year contract as head coach. Under his leadership, Purdue has reached the NCAA tournament 17 times and made nine Sweet-16 appearances. Painter has coached eleven players who went on to play in the NBA, including three first-round draft picks.
