Matt Carpenter Biography

Matthew Martin Lee Carpenter, born November 26, 1985, is an American former professional baseball infielder. He has played 14 seasons in Major League Baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, and San Diego Padres. The St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the 13th round of the 2009 MLB draft after his time at Texas Christian University. Carpenter earned a spot in the 2013 MLB All-Star Game and won the Silver Slugger Award at second base that year. His father, a former college baseball player, later became a high school coach. Carpenter was a three-year first-team all-district performer and two-time all-state tournament team selection during high school. He made his major league debut on June 4, 2011, starting at third base and batting seventh.
