Mark Martin Biography

Mark Anthony Martin, born January 9, 1959, is an American former stock car racing driver known by the nickname the Kid. He competed most notably in the No. 6 Ford for Roush Racing throughout the majority of his career. Despite multiple close finishes, Martin never won the Daytona 500 during his racing career. He earned the ASA National Tour Rookie of the Year Award in 1977 and later won 22 ASA races and four series championships in 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1986. Martin began his NASCAR career with an unsettled start, competing for six different teams between 1981 and 1987. In 1981, he made five starts with a team owned by Bud Reeder, securing pole positions at Nashville and Richmond and finishing third at Martinsville. He raced full-time in 1982 with the Bud Reeder team, which received sponsorship from Apache Stove.
