Mark Grace Biography

Mark Eugene Grace, born June 28, 1964, played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball as a first baseman for the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks. He earned All-Star honors three times during his professional career. Grace was selected by the Cubs in the 1985 draft, launching his MLB journey. In the 2001 postseason, his third appearance as a player, Grace batted .286 and contributed to Arizona’s World Series run with a leadoff single in the bottom of the 9th inning of Game 7. He batted and threw left-handed, wearing jersey number 28 and 17 during his 1988 rookie season. Grace helped the Cubs secure the NL East division title in 1989 and the NL wild card in 1998. During the 1989 NLCS, he batted .647 with a home run, three doubles, and drove in 8 of the Cubs’ 16 runs in the five-game series.
