Mark Bavaro Biography

Mark Bavaro, born April 28, 1963, played as a tight end in the NFL for the New York Giants from 1985 to 1990, the Cleveland Browns in 1992, and the Philadelphia Eagles from 1993 to 1994. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 1986 and 1987 and was a key contributor to the Giants' Super Bowl XXI and XXV championship teams. After missing the 1991 season due to a degenerative knee condition, he returned to play for the Browns and Eagles before retiring in 1995. Bavaro was initially known for his strong blocking skills and was expected to serve as a run-blocking tight end in the pros. His performance improved significantly during the 1986 season, marking a turning point in his career. One of the most memorable moments of his career occurred during a 1986 Monday Night Football game. Mark Bavaro appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated's NFL preview issue for the 1987 season.
